With this brand-new “The Pearl River Delta Ecocinema Exhibition”, we hope to improve environmental culture and film communication between Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, with “ecocinema” we introduce the ecological ethics to citizens, and achieve high artistic standard.
Ecological environment crisis is the very pressing problem in world's developed and developing countries. China, our nation with one fifth of the world population, is facing unprecedented ecological crisis for more than 30 years since the reform and opening-up. The rapid development of urbanization has a profound effect on ecological environment, even irreversible, in which Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region play the important roles.

In 1980, Shenzhen became the first special economic zone in China, Hong Kong enterprises took the lead to move the original industrial production lines to inland, it indirectly extend the ecological problem of China, we also can say that ecological problem started with the development of the Pearl River Delta cities such as Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Film is the eighth contemporary art, and also a generally accepted medium of art by public. Mainland and Hong Kong have many film festivals and film exhibitions every year, for example: Beijing Film Festival and Hong Kong Film Festival. The film festivals named after cities, however, are rarely aim at the culture context of the city or discuss the current social issues. “The Pearl River Delta Ecocinema Exhibition” not only supplements the inadequacy of existing film festivals, but also creates an ecocinema exhibition with regional cultural significance, which draws regional residents’ and different fields’ attention to environmental protection and ecological ethics.

21 Space Art Museum planed to base on the history and reality of the Pearl River Delta in the early days, committed to promoting contemporary Chinese art, examine the outlook on the development of Chinese contemporary art in a global context. With this mission, we have held a series of exhibitions and research programs. “The Pearl River Delta Ecocinema Exhibition” is following the same academic mission. This time we specially set up a "Dongguan Unit", to make the local excellent films communicate with the films from Hong Kong and other regions effectively. We hope to make our contribution to promote the interaction and communication between different regions about environmental protection and film art thesis.
