"Visual Mix—1st Canton Contemporary Art Community Young Artists' Group Exhibition"to be held in 21 Space Art Museum on May 16th, 2013 is organized by Yang Xiaoyan and Hu Bin. Works of 39 young artists and 2 art groups from Guangzhou and Shenzhen contemporary art communities will be displayed. It is a compelling exhibition of 2013 to represent the ecological art scene of regional contemporary art communities.

In Guangdong the fact that the atmosphere of private art activities and collections is not strong enough compared to that in Beijing and Shanghai. And somehow, contemporary art institutions mostly run in separate directions, several areas aggregating by artists cause with no demonstration effect. On the other hand, it implies that the contemporary art in Guangdong maintain its characteristics towards the self-consciousness and individuality for the development of creation and art spaces, and much less with anxiety for profit pursuit.

Due to the impact of the external environment, the academic art institutions become more open-minded to start introducing programs associated with external changes. Both public and private art institutions play in an active role. Besides, an increasing number of contemporary art communities settled around the areas, such as Xiaozhou Village, Panyu District and Shenzhen, enhance exchange opportunities, while private art spaces expand the volume of growing contemporary art in Guangdong.

An in-depth research with publications for this exhibition outlines the overall situation of contemporary art communities in Guangdong plus individual cases, which also highlights the emerging power of documenta exhibitions.

This exhibition features the works of art that combine an integration of various elements, crossing through vision, ideas and academic disciplines by exhibited artists. Besides, these communities represent the characteristics of complexity. The symposium hosted by leading curators、museum directors and art critics will overview regional art communities in a national context. Exhibited artists will also attend the press conference, the opening reception of the exhibition and the symposium. Please welcome all of our guests to participate and to dynamically interact with art critics and artists on site.
